The historic Cafe Royal Circle Bar is set to undergo a six-figure makeover, creating an enhanced new look and improved menu.

Historic Edinburgh bar set for six-figure makeover

The popular Belhaven bar, on West Register Street, has now closed and will reopen on Wednesday 20 March, where it will provide the perfect setting for an after-work get together, relaxed weekend dining or a catch-up over oysters and champagne.

The makeover will enhance the listed Edinburgh bar, which is steeped in 166 years of history, whilst retaining its original features, including elegant stained glass windows, late Victorian plasterwork, and an iconic circular bar. The eclectic decor will also be refreshed, featuring a timeless colour palette of bold, dark paint tones, with plenty of seating areas to eat, drink and soak up the atmosphere.

Guests can select from the Cafe Royal Circle Bar’s carefully curated menu, offering everything from Scottish Lobster and Fresh Mussels, to Slow Cooked Scottish Beef Pie and Haggis, Neeps & Tatties. Alternatively, for a quick bite or starter, the team will be serving up Traditional Cullen Skink and Gnocchi, as well as delicious sandwiches, including sirloin steak and smoked salmon.

The venue will also offer a wide drinks selection, including Scottish cask ales, Scotch whiskeys and a variety of fine wines. A range of Cafe Royal Signature Champagne Serves will also be available, including the Grand Royal – a blend of Grand Marnier, Palmer & Co. Champagne and an orange twist garnish.

The Cafe Royal Circle Bar will also continue to offer its signature Bloody Mary Perfect Serve, served alone for £7.50, or paired with an oyster for £9.

Chris Goddard, general manager at the Cafe Royal Circle Bar, said: “We know that the Cafe Royal Circle Bar is a much-loved destination, for locals and city tourists alike, so we want to provide our guests with even better surroundings to enjoy the fantastic food and great selection of Scotch whiskeys, champagnes and cask ales.

“The refurbishment is focused on retaining the venue’s original features and opulent feel, whilst giving the interior a refreshed new look, incorporating natural materials and dark paint tones.

“We’re really excited to get the refurbishment underway, and look forward to welcoming both new and existing guests to the revamped venue when it officially opens on Wednesday 20 March.”

The new look Cafe Royal Circle Bar offers a traditional Scottish Supper, including Cullen Skink, Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, Farmed Scottish Venison, Raspberry Cranachan, a Celtic Cheese Board and coffee for £45 per person.
